Informational Hodgepodge

I'll be honest, I have been falling down on the job at this blogging. I need to get my mojo back on and get to it. If you responded to me last week, I SWEAR I will reply to you this week. Thanks for being patient! Joyce has done it again. Haven't joined up? Get your booty over and get started! Let's see what I can figure out to write. LOL

1. When did you last 'skate on thin ice', 'skate over the details', 'encounter a cheapskate', or just plain skate?

Yesterday. I had a "surprise" observation from my principal. I felt like I skated on thin ice and skated over the details while teaching. Come to find out i did really well on my observation...at least better than I thought I did!

2.  What would you say is the biggest problem of people your age?

Well, I am glad I am older than this generation and I can go on and on about them. But as for my generation? HMMMMM. I graduated in 1988. (I wanted to help you out on the year, but don't try to figure out my age). Maybe the biggest problem is not planning well for the future. We are not at retirement age. We see 50 in the horizon but think we have plenty of time to start saving.

3. What's your favorite accessory? Is it something you wear every day, often, or only on special occasions?

Every day I wear my engagement ring and my FitBit. I love it when I finally make my steps and my FitBit vibrates on my wrist. I usually do a little dance.

For special occasions, I will wear a normal watch with my Tiffany's bracelet I got while in New York one year. Also if my fingers are feeling rather thin, I will wear my Mama's wedding ring.

4.  January 20th is National Cheese Lover's Day Are you a lover of cheese? What's your favorite dish made with cheese? Last thing you ate that contained some kind of cheese?

Cheese can be like bacon, makes everything taste better, but I don't celebrate it.

My favorite dish made with cheese would be Mexican (any and all). I even like Mac n Cheese!

The last thing I ate with cheese was last night at Newk's. I had a cobb salad with cheddar cheese.

5. What's something guaranteed to make you roll your eyes?

Maybe the ignorance spouted out of the mouths of teenagers. They think they know things and totally believe in what they read on the internet. One moment was when I over heard teenagers talking about aliens. Now I am not saying there is not life out there, but the things they see and read on internet they take a gospel!
6. Your favorite book series?

I am a romance lover, but needs to have comedy in it. Here are three of my favorites (as in I read them over and over)

1. Miss Fortune Series by Jana DeLeon
2. Wicked Witches of the Midwest by Amanda M. Lee
3. Bobby Faye series by Toni McGee Causey

7. Why did you choose your profession?

I never went to school to be a teacher. I wanted to do something in history. I majored in both history and English. When I moved to Texas, I was hired to be a paraprofessional in a middle school. The state of Texas paid my way to become a teacher (I fit the criteria). When I started to work at the alternative school while finishing my degree is where I knew I had found my niche. I love working with at risk kids! Took a while to find it but, boom there it was.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Tomorrow, Jan 21 is my dad's 82 birthday. He and mama were born on the same day, four years apart. This will be his first birthday without her. He is a man who doesn't share emotions so I am not sure what he is truly thinking. We are gathering together as a family to celebrate him and hopefully easy any pain he may be hiding.

Another random thought....I love my little white rat. He is definitely like a child to me. This morning, this is how I found him in bed. I have no idea how that blanket got on him! (FYI: He has to sleep in bed with his head on the side of the bed and his stinky booty touching me. He takes up my whole side of the bed and I sleep in the middle. Thankful we have a king size bed!

Colorful Hodgepodge

Yay! I am back and at the perfect time too....Hodgepodge!

I am trying to get back into the swing of things from the holidays and the start of a new semester. This new semester is kicking my booty because I am constantly getting new students and my classes are growing! So I am ready for fun!

Let's get this started. Thanks Joyce for these awesome questions!

1. Share one thing that really makes your day.

Getting my morning and evening phone call from LT. Even if he is at work 24 hrs, we make sure (if there is no fires or emergencies) there is a good morning and good night call. I LIVE for those!!

2. Lots of these kinds of lists out there, but one found here says the fifteen most colorful places on earth are:

Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy~Burano, Italy~Havana, Cuba~Rio de Janiero, Brazil~Chefchaouen, Morocco~Balat, Istanbul, Turkey~Menton, France~Jodhpur, India~La Baca, Buenos Aires, Argentina~Guanajuato, Mexico~Capetown, South Africa~Valparaiso, Chile~Wroclaw, Poland~San Francisco, California~and Pelourhino, Salvador, Brazil.

Of those listed which would you most like to see up close and in person? Of all the places you've seen or traveled in your own life, what would you say was one of the most colorful?

Unfortunately I have only been to San Fran and that makes me sad. I would probably go to anything in Italy. I have been to Rainbow Row in Charleston, SC

I think Mykonos, Greece should be on the list. I have been there but do not have my pictures digital so I got this off the internet. I am lazy!

3."Everything you want is on the other side of fear." Jack Canfield  In general, would you agree or disagree with that statement? Why?

Yes in the sense of life. You have to stop being afraid and experience things. You will be amazed at who you will become and the things you will do.

Now if you are talking scary movies... I don't want to live through the fear of those scary things. Yes, it is better on the other side, but I don't want to have to go through it to get there!

4. Imagine you're stranded on a desert island and dessert appears...what do you hope it is? Do you ever struggle to remember which spelling is desert and which is dessert?

I remember desserts to eat is too "s" which is in excess, just like desserts. Or I draw out the anticipation of eating and say "dessssssserts" so there are a lot of "s".

I am really not a dessert eater. HOWEVER, the dessert I would want to eat on a desert island would be ice cream in an air conditioned building!

Funny story: When I lived at home in my mid 20s (thanks to a divorce and going to college), Mom and I would eat a candy bar every night. We LOVED Mr. Goodbar. But Dad always found our stash and would eat almost all of them! What should last us a week would last a night or two thanks to Dad. One day, Mom and I bought 3 candy bars and put names on them. The next day there were three - four beer cans out of the container and on the shelf in the refridge with Dad's name on them. Paybacks!! We still laugh at that.

5. What song almost always makes you cry?

"My Woman, My Woman, My Wife" by Marty Robbins. This was playing when Dad and I were driving home for the hospital after Mama passed away. Dad said this is the song he wanted to play at her funeral. It chokes me up every time!

6. January is National Soup Month.  Everything from soup to nuts, in the soup, thick as pea soup, souped up...which saying most recently applies to your life in some way? Explain.

The Soup Nazi and "NO SOUP FOR YOU!" from Seinfeld  LOL

I feel like I need to follow along, do what is required, and don't cause waves.

7. Write a two word note to your younger self. What does it say?

Be You.

source
This note is to let me know/remind me to live my life and do the things that I enjoy. I do not have to be a chameleon and follow others and do what others want. I am an amazing person and people will love me for me, not who I pretend to be.

Plus it would save time and money as I get older to know I am not perfect but I am enough!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

10 weeks is how long it will take to clean up after the tornado.
2 weeks to my dad (and mom's) birthday
1 month to my birthday
2 months to LT's birthday (St Patty Day)
2 months to Spring Break and warm weather
6 months to the end of school
6 months to vacation!!
....not that I am counting down or anything! LOL
