Hello October Hodgepodge!

A quick Hodgepodge from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. Sorry so late in the day to get it out there! Come join in next Wednesday!

1. Something on your October calendar that makes you smile?
Halloween! I wrote a cute little poem about it. Plus,  I love to dress as the monkeys and hand out candy!

Yep, this is LT and I!

Life like!  We are in demand!

2. Food for the soul or music for the soul...which camp are you in? Tell us why.
Music for the soul. I love music and it always soothes me. I can not go a day without music.

3. What are two or three things you've learned recently as the result of an online search?
I am learning about Google Classrooms and how to incorporate it at school.

4. Share your favorite game day recipe. You can describe it, post the how-to, or add a link to the actual recipe.
We call it Veggie crack! But we do it for get togethers not game day. We are not sports watchers.

Hodgepoding Autumn Fun!

Yay! I am not only back, but I am back to Hodgepodging! I have missed you girls! Joyce @ From This Side of the Pond is back at it and has some fun autumn fun for us. Joyce, fall is my favorite season too...I just wish I lived closer to the magnificent explosion of fall colors. Texas, in my area, has green or brown. No fun in that huh?

1. What have you 'fallen for' recently?

2. What's something you're 'squirreling away' for later? My go to answer is retirement, but also for our next vacation I am supposed to be planning! I am thinking Hawaii and Oregon. I am needing some fall trees though! Oh what to do!

3. How do you like your apples? Sweet? Tart? Crisp? Cooked? Apples are one of the superfoods for fall...how often do you eat an apple either plain or as part of a favorite recipe? What's your favorite variety? Apple pie, hot apple pie is how I like my apples. I actually have a Gala apple sitting on my desk waiting to get bitten into...maybe today, maybe tomorrow.

4. According to Fodor's the ten best fall foliage trips in the US of A are-Aspen Colorado, The Catskills New York, The Berkshires Massachusetts, Columbia River Gorge Oregon, Green Mountain Byway Vermont, Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway New Mexico, Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee, Upper Peninsula Michigan, Lake of the Ozarks Missouri, and Glacier National Park Montana. Which would you most like to visit this fall and why?
All! I love trees, nature and fall. I have done Missouri and Montana, not necessarily in the fall or for foliage trips. I tried to do the Great Smoky in Tennessee but ended up with food poisoning spending 3 days in the hospital. Don't think I can get LT to go back to that state again. Trust me...I WILL get to my beloved trees in the fall somewhere, somehow!

5. The topic of legalizing marijuana was raised in the most recent televised political debate so let's wade in too. Twenty-three states and the District of Columbia currently have laws legalizing marijuana in some form. Four states have legalize marijuana for recreational use. Your thoughts? Yeah, I really don't want to get into this. I listen to teenagers and adults everywhere debating this. I am against drugs but do understand how this drug can, maybe, possibly have medical purposes...recreational is just a "no". I think it will always be debated whether legal or illegal, with purpose or not.

6. Are you okay to watch a movie already in progress or do you need to always see it from the beginning? How about jumping into a TV series somewhere in the middle? Is that okay?
If I have seen the movie already, I can handle jumping in the middle; otherwise I may have to go to the beginning (especially if I was getting into it!) Same with TV series. I am the weirdo who likes to re-watch movies and TV series. Mostly it depends if I am enjoying it and getting sucked into the show. If so...yes go back

7. Thursday (September 24) is National Punctuation Day. What rule of punctuation trips you up most often? What rule of punctuation, when broken by someone else, bugs you the most?
I am an English teacher so I would like to say none trip me up, but I am human. Shhhhh don't tell the students! I have trouble with dashes. Those punctuation you do not use often are my kryptonite. What bugs me might be the misuse of apostrophes....showing ownership or making a plural word. Most of my bugs are grammar related!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Ahhhh it feels good to be back! What feels even better is having your Westie FINALLY sent to the cleaners and looking and smelling good! It has been a few months, he has been funky, and now I am addicted to sniffing his clean fur!

Trippin' With Dad

Ok, the title really sounds bad, but it's not I tell ya....Its snot!

You are never too old
to hold your
Daddy's hand.

A couple of weeks ago Daddy had to have cataract surgery in his left eye and they also put a stent in it for pre-glacoma. He was a trouper and did great! He was very diligent on telling us when it is time for us to put drops in his eye!

Because my sister D and I were up there over that weekend, we decided a road trip was called for and packed Daddy up and off we went! We drove over to Clinton, OK to see the Route 66 Museum. It was really cool with all the exhibits.

The first one was how they surveyed and made the highway. Daddy used to work on a road crew when he came back from Korean War so he had stories to tell and informed us what the different tools were, etc. Then we saw the different vehicles during the era. He reminisced about the truck he had on the farm. It looked the like one you have seen on "Grapes of Wrath". Then we turned the corner and came to the soda shop. This held so many memories for him because that is were he met Mama, when she was working the soda shop. He asked her out the same day he met her and he was there to buy stamps to send a letter to another girl! I am not sure I can take that kind of history! LOL

It was so cool to hear how you used to actually hand pump your gas before it would flow up and out the hose into your car or how you had to reset the pump after you were finished pumping your gas. I never would have known this history if it wasn't for Daddy sharing it with us.

After that we were feeling pretty lucky so off to the local gambling hall. Daddy and I were the big winners of $16 each from the slot machines. I am not a gambler. I wanted to take the $10 and put it in my pocket, but I was FORCED to pull the one arm bandit. Won $6 but not flying off to Vegas with that kind of luck!

We also took Daddy to Pops and the Big Round Barn in Arcadia, Ok. Nothing to exciting...it was free. It was really cool to check out the old barn and see how it was made. You don't see round barns anymore.

On a side note, Daddy's eye (surgery eye) had some blood his body did not reabsorb and so it blocked out his vision and couldn't see. We all thought he had a detached retina, but it wasn't! He thought he did something, like go to the museum and used his eye a lot, and that is why his vision went black. Doctor looked at it and was very reassuring.

We are always trying to take care of Daddy and worry about him without his companion of 56 years. What we are getting in the process is more time with Daddy and so many memories! We are making more memories now than we did growing up it seems. We are also learning what a worry wort he has become!...but with good reason.

Daily I am blessed having my dad in my life. Please don't take life for granted or think I'll call them later. Do it now. I am finding out, even though Daddy was never a talker on the phone, he is missing that connection. I am learning to call and talk to him more. It was mostly Mama and I that would talk for hours on the phone and Daddy and I only a few minutes. Funny how things change or how blinders you were wearing (but didn't know) fall away and you see things in a new light.

FYI: Daddy had his right eye done a few days ago and it went perfectly! Of course he didn't do anything that whole weekend because he was stressed out from what happened with the left eye. All is good though! Now to talk him into another trip!

I am Still Alive and Kicking

source
It has been sooo long since I have opened my blog I feel like a big fat failure! So much has been going on that I really haven't felt like doing anything! Some days it feels like I am just surviving. I am hoping this is all going to change.

When we last met, I was changing programs at work. Still not happy with it, but it is not the students that are the issue. That's about all I will say about it. I still go from pouty to angry, but learning not to bring it to school or home.

So it has been three weeks and I have survived and made a little niche for myself. I am still struggling with planning and all the requirements (feels like more than any other place) for this position.  But I am trying to get it all done so my weekends (at least) are free to spend with LT and my dad.

Yep, I am still driving up to see my dad. It isn't every weekend and there is no set schedule when I go up, but it does take a toll and play a factor in my time and life. I won't stop going up, but will be more focused on my time split between the two important men in my life.

That leaves you, my friends. I am trying to carve out time to get back into communicating with you! I have missed you! So this is my vow to you to meet up with you at least twice a week, hopefully more! I think once things start to even out, we will be back in business just chatting away. Until then, be patient with me. I am taking baby steps into getting my crap together! LOL

See ya soon...I actually have a couple of posts int he works!
