What Brave Means

As you know, I chose a word to focus on for the year. This will be the 3rd year of doing this. This year the word BRAVE has chosen me. So one thing I am doing is a class with Ali Edwards. Click on the links, check it out and join if it is calling to you.

In our class, we are to chose a symbol for our word and a quote. Let me tell you, this was the easiest part of the whole experience. Here is my quote:

Yes, I made this on Rhonna Designs app on my phone. I am not creative, but I am getting outside my box with this app! One aspect of brave is doing things that I don't normally do, that are scary. Being brave is trying new things.

As for my symbol, if you haven't guessed, is a bird. I took the quote and immediately thought of a bird. I thought: if I see a bird it will make be brave; fly. I am really loving this symbol and quote! I am also using this picture of me "flying". Thanks sis for this idea! I totally love it!

So I have incorporated this in my personal life. This is my lock screen on my phone. Since I am constantly on my phone, this is a great visual to remind myself. Also journalling is a great way to dig deep into what it means to me.

You know, I have been working on it personally but I forgot an area; my professional life. I need to be brave a work too. Being a teacher, especially of at-risk students, there is a great many times I will need to be brave between conferences, parents, student issues, as well as decisions on my job. Scary times people. I decided to get a bird to visually remind myself. Luckily, Hobby Lobby was having a sale on their Easter items and I got this cutie patootie bird. I put it beside my picture of LT because he also makes me brave, adventurous and go outside my box. Isn't this the cutest!

I also love monkeys and pens. They just make me happy. Actually this whole collage makes me happy!

I just wanted to share what I am doing with my word. Being BRAVE means doing things that are scary and outside my box. Change is hard for me and being brave will help me accept change a little easier. I want to be more authentic on who I am and what I want. This means taking care of me, my needs, wants and happiness. I usually deny myself for others happiness.

Brave also means letting go of things, saying no. You always think brave is doing something heroic. Brave doesn't mean being a hero or doing things. Brave could be not doing something. Maybe, for me, it will look like not driving the way Lt or a passenger wants, but the way I want to. At work, I always take the lead and I'm the disciplinarian. Maybe being brave is stepping back and letting others take the lead.

I am excited to see where this leads me. I am glad that you are on this journey with me. Don't be shy. Share your stories, your encouragement, your word and symbol.
