Sunday Social

Happy Easter!

Has the week really gone by so quickly? I guess when it is a 3 day work week, it is! Luckily we had a bad weather make up day on Thursday and since we didn't get to use it, we got it off. 4 day weekend, baby!! Of course everyday felt like Sunday to me. So when the next day arrived and I didn't have to go to work, it was like a gift. Score! So let's link up with Neely for our Sunday Social.

Sunday Social

1. What is your favorite type of workout to do? Shopping? Is that a workout? Honestly, I really don't like to work out. Staying on the honesty roll, I don't usually work out...much. (and it shows!) I usually walk but the treadmill is boring. I am in the process of finding something fun (not monotonous) to get me started.

2. What is your favorite guilty pleasure candy or sweet? I really don't have a sweet tooth. But if I get a craving, it is usually for chocolate. My go to candy bars when I get the chocolate monkey on my back is Hersey's with Almonds, Mr. Goodbar, or Peanut M&Ms.

3. What is one thing you continuously forget to do? I am sure there is a kazillion things I forget to do all the time. But number one on that hit parade is take vitamins!!

4. Do you prefer post-it notes or phone reminders? Why? Definitely Post-It notes. I love to have them lining my desk, showing me everything that needs to be done. I line them up like little soldiers in a neat line and they are colored, usually neon. I don't like boring yellow. Then as I complete the task, I rip them off the desk and toss them in the trash. It is so satisfying to see my line dwindle.

5. What is your favorite picture currently on your phone that always makes you smile? My favorite favorite picture is the one of Lt and I on Halloween. I think this says it all, don't you?
Looks life like, huh?
But I have to add this second one to show you what it was like for Halloween and what the kids saw when they came running to the house with candy dancing in their eyes, until they got a load of this...

LT and I had all the kids freaking
out when they saw us. The kids had to
walk up to us to get their candy.
Awesome night!.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my little blog. I would love to hear from you! And hey, think about joining the Sunday Social with us. I would love to read what you have to say!

It's OK Thursday

I am linking up with Neely at A Complete Waste of Makeup.

Its Ok Thursdays
So let's get to it, shall we?
Its Ok....
... to take your fur baby to the cleaners and leave him there all day. He will survive and so will I.

... to miss your honey even though he just walked out the door.

... to go try out recliners with no intention of buying them that day.

... to order a camp chair from Walmart online even though there is 2 in the same color in the store.

... to eat breakfast for dinner.

... to be a little wacky at work. Keeps them guessing and can put a smile on someones face.

... to be somewhat obsessed with Duck Dynasty.

... to step outside your box.

... to not do anything one day.

What is going on with you? Link up with Neely and release....

Westie Wednesday

OK. So Gavin, my Westie Furbaby, has finally talked me into allowing him to introduce himself and give him a chance on my blog. He thinks he has so much to say. You just don't realize how nervous I am to allow this to happen. Cross your fingers!

Woo Hoo!! Mom finally let me have my chance! So we are going to do a question and answer blog about moi! She has put limits on what I can say. Mom hasn't figured out I have no limits!

Mom: Your name is Gavin. What is your favorite nickname?
Gavin: Dad has many names for me. My favorite is the one he sings. It goes like this:
"Gavin Eugene Couscous Lamar. He once rode around in a shiny car."
How did you chose my name? Why Gavin? It should be Super Dog!
Mom: Well, when you came to be with me, I went to a bookstore and looked up Scottish baby names (because you are my baby) and found out "GAVIN" meant very white. You being a white Westie it was meant to be. Of course you are all boy so you are always dirty.
Gavin: So that is why "Dirty White Boy" by Foreigner is my theme song?
Mom: You got it!

Mom: What do you do during the day when we are at work?
Gavin: Ummm, sleep? What you don't know is I also run around in the backyard telling those cats next door I am on the them and they are NOT getting my ears to sell on Ebay!

Mom: Gavin, why do you think the cats are trying to get your ears and sell them on Ebay?
Gavin: Dad tells me all the time those sneaky cats are planning it! Dad wouldn't lie to me.

Mom: Hate to tell you big boy, but I think Dad is pulling your paw.
Gavin: Then why is Dad always trying to grab my ears and meowing? Huh?

Mom: Whatever, Gavin. So what are your favorite toys?
Gavin I love my flea. But that tree stump with squirrels in it has me out of my mind! They keep getting in that stump and chattering at me. I get that stump and shake it and a squirrel out but have to stick my head in to get the other two. But I do like to drop bombs where ever you and dad are. It makes me laugh. But here are two pictures of me with my favorites toys.

My Flea!!

It was so hard to sit here and
not get those squirrels!!

Mom: TMI on the bombs, Gavin. Where do you prefer to seat in the evening? With Mom or Dad?
Gavin: Whoever gives me a chicken strip! All right, Mom, I'll be good. I like sitting with both of you. I prefer Dad's recliner when he isn't there and the couch to snuggle with you. Does that make you happy Mom?

Mom: Gaaaaavvvvvin. You are walking the line.

Gavin: Hey, Mom, can I do another post? Huh? Can I?
Mom: I don't know, Gavin. Tell me more.
Gavin: Maybe the peeps out there can ask me questions. I know everything! It could be called Dear Gavin. Or Gavin Knows Best. Or Hey Gavin. Or...
Mom: I don't know Gavin. Let's ask everyone if they think it will fly. Should Gavin do a post? Should he answer questions from the readers? Should he just stay home and look pretty?

Gavin: Please peeps, vote for me!!

Charleston Trip

Yes, I have finally gotten around to posting about my faboo trip to Charleston over Spring Break. My sister, D has always wanted to head south, specifically to Savannah to check out Paula Deen's place. I just love to go on trips! So Charleston was the destination with a side of Savannah.

When I take a trip, I am a planner. I like to research what historical things there are to do see and do in the place I go. That does not mean I will go see them, but I feel a little more knowledgable and prepared. Down time on a trip trying to figure out where to go or what to do is frustrating don't you think? So I have some ideas what to see and do in both Savannah and Charleston. What I didn't count on was the time change and sleeping late.

So our trip to Savannah was quick. We arrived later than planned but made the most of it. Yes, we ate at Paula's place, but trying to eat both healthy and gluten-free was a struggle. Most everything is either fried or breaded. But these corn bread cakes were To. Die. For!

After our lunch, off we went to Bonaventure Cemetary. What the what? Yep, cemetary and let me tell you why. Remeber the movie "In the Garden of Good and Evil"? There is a statue that my sister loves. It is the Girl with Birds. I found out it was supposed to be at this cemetary. But 15 mintues before it closes doesn't give time to scope it out. Later read that it was removed from the cemetery. So here are a few photos of Bonaventure. Looks nothing like what we see nowadays. I like this cemetery better.

We did get in one plantation, but it wasn't what I thought a plantation would look like. This was no Tara. But it was interesting none the less. I really liked the Biblical Garden. It is the oldest garden and they had different plants mentioned from the Bible.

From then on it was all about the shopping and food. Let me just say, my suitcase had plenty of room for more stuff and never did get full.

Experiencing Charleston was more important than documenting Charleston as you can tell by lack of pictures. I think this trip for me was more about quality time with my sister. We are so much alike! Our trips are usually full of laughter and a little bit of fussing. But this trip was overall relaxing and the scenery amazing. Oh and we figured out I am better navigator than my sister!

Tech-NO-ology

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

There is trouble in techno-land. My internet service is what is called "intermittent". I am waiting to have a technician figure out what the dilly-o is happening. I feel like this is a revolving ordeal. Within the last year we have had to have a new modem and called customer service about 5-8 different times. I am hopeful this is the last time and we will get some resolution.

Next, we move on to the vortex of hell for cellphone service. I swear to you, I could be a block or two away from my house and I start to have my service cut out constantly. Everyone knows where I am and how close I am to home by how well they can hear me. I have tried to use the phone with cell phone cover, no cell phone cover, inside, outside and it doesn't matter. So the solution is to change carriers when my time is up. Lt has a different service than I do and he does not have any problem. Now I have to figure out stay with an iPhone or change to Samsung Galaxy SIII. I will take any advice y'all can give me on which one to chose.

Now we come to my blog. I am learning about widgets and codes and linkups, oh my! Everything is a learning process and I love to learn! I have been blogging for a couple of months now and thought I'd give BlogLovin' a try. I got in too late for the Google Friend Connect and felt like I was missing something. Then like a manna from Heaven a new way to follow has come.  Show a sista some love and start following!

As I am typing this blog, the internet has had, how shall I say, a hiccup and is just the rainbow wheel from hell, spinning, spinning, spinning.

Technology is both a blessing and a curse. We continue to make strides in technology in so many fields and because of these strides, there will be glitches and hiccups happening. Even though I have had technology challenges this weekend I know...I got this!

Social Sunday!

It is time for Social Sunday and it's all about spring! This is a little hard for me to think about because we received our cold front last night with the added bonus of wind...almost Kansas style wind. This means we are looking at 25-35 mile an hour winds. Kansas winds start around 40-45; anything else is just a breeze. So let's see what spring has in store for us, shall we?

Sunday Social

1.  What is your favorite thing about Spring? Blooms! I love when everything is starting to bloom. Flowers of all shapes and sizes calling out to me to be planted in my yard and around my doorway. My Spirea that is so heavy with blooms it is dragging the ground. The Bradford Pear trees bursting with flowers that begin to drift downward only to be replaced with leaves leading us to the green green grasses. It's all about the color and new life!

2. Favorite kind of flowers to grow or receive? My favorite flower to receive is daisies. They are so smiley! The flowers I love to grow are Snapdragons (because you can make them talk by pinching the flower and make their "mouth" open up!), irises (from my parents house), any bright color flower to spruce up the front porch. I am going to get some Azaleas and Lady Banks this year and try my hand at those. Wish me luck!

3. What is your favorite nail polish? Well, I leave my fingernails natural. I am trying to grow them past my fingers and it's not working to well. They keep splitting! But for my feet I go all out! My favorite is OPI Cajun Shrimp. I have enjoyed a white (when I am tan), gunmetal grey, and for St. Patrick's Day a green.

4. What is your favorite outdoor activity? Walking around White Rock Lake with Lt. We enjoy going through the neighborhoods more than the lake. There are more hills and less traffic! I also enjoy going on mini trips and doing some hiking. How can I forget our putt putt challenges!

5. Do you have any spring plans? Not really. Well, we are going see Wicked and then a Heart concert. Other than that, we just wing it. There will be some trips to Galveston for some putt putt beside the ocean, some arts and craft fairs around the area and maybe slip down to Austin to see the bats. No big trips until this summer, hopefully.

What does your spring look like?

Friday 5 Link Up

I am linking up with Joy from The Sowell Life. Here is my top 5 of what my week looked like..

1. Spring and Spirea: I just love when my spirea bush blooms every year! It reminds me of growing up in Kansas. My momma always had a spirea bush and mine just brings back my childhood. Even Gavin likes it! I really think he is looking for a place to do his business...No, Gavin!

2. Book Club: Once a month I meet up with some special ladies for a book club. Our book is 1000 gifts. I adore these women! They are so supportive and uplifting! I always leave with hope restored and my soul renewed. It has also helped me get back to my Joy Journal which has brought more peace and perspective to my life again.

3. Gavin: This is one of my favorite topics; My little man! He is always surprising us with his personality. Lately he has been taken to sit with Dad in the "man chair". Of course Lt has to work extra hard to get Gavin to come to him (Gavin is a Momma's boy). But now that this routine has been established, Gavin thinks it is his chair. He is taking over! Look at him!

"Am I doing this right, Dad?"

4. Hair cut: I absolutely LOVE going to my hair salon. I have been going to my boys for 15 years. They get me, and know what I mean when I say I want a new style or change (translation: I want the change but don't want to commit to actually changing my length). Sometimes I think of going shorter but I don't think it would be flattering and Lt likes my hair long. So the plan was to come up with some bangs. I have never had "bangs" before. Not to bad! I actually really like it. Now to see if I can recreate the look!

5. Weather: TEXAS weather is so unpredictable! We have been having wonderful spring weather in the upper 70s almost 80 degree weather! Then...BOOM!...cold front hits and I have to drag out the sweaters again. I am hoping for a little warmer weather for Saturday. We are heading to Tyler for the Azalea Trails. I love to see the blooms on azalea bushes. I just may have to bring a couple home to plant have Lt plant in the yard.

Next week looks to be an even slower pace! Plans are:
1. Azalea Trail and dinner out
2. Bath Gavin (oh mylanta that is a chore!)
3. A round of cutthroat putt putt (weather permitting)
4. Down time with Lt.
5. Getting caught up with my 30 miles in 30 days

So, what has been shakin' with you?

Lt's Birthday Ritual

Whew! It has been a whirlwind Spring Break and I loved every minute of it! I took a trip to Charleston with my sister D. I'll post on that in a few days. Then I got back in time for Lt's birthday.

Let me tell you about Lt and his birthday. He let me know right away in our dating, there is a ritual for his birthday. How many of us have rituals for our birthdays? For watching football games, yes. For birthdays, probably not. But Lt has specifics that he wants for his birthday and he is happy. First: Go to the St Patrick's Day Parade. We did and had a blast! Second, eat steak at Saltgrass Steakhouse. Third, go to his hometown and get a Red Velvet Cake and enjoy it (We only do cake once a year)

Lt and I before the parade started.
Don't freak, I had green writing on my shirt

I hope you enjoyed the St. Patrick's Day parade! There were more pictures, but I didn't want to overload you on pictures - more than you already are. Also sorry for the size of the pictures. I was hoping they would be bigger to see but there were so many to show!

Hope your St. Patrick's Day was memorable and you wore your green so you didn't get pinched!

Social Sunday #2

Sunday Social

Social Sunday with Neely was so much fun I am back for more!

Here is today's questions and answers:

What is one movie you are terrified to watch?
Only one? I do not watch any scary movie, sorry Lt (he loves them!) I think it's because either a) I can freak myself out without any help from scary movies or b) they are just too real to me. So any scary movie you name, I'm out!

PS: I don't even go to spook houses with Lt!

What is one TV show you have always wanted to get into but haven't yet?
Elementary. It is like a modern day Sherlock Holmes. I am just amazed any one could have such a perception on what is going on around them! I love the  Sherlock Holmes movies and adore the TV show Psych so I would think this would be up my alley. Haven't watched it yet.

What is one daring activity on your bucket list?
Hmmmm....I am not a big adrenaline junkie so skydiving and bungie jumping are out. Maybe taking a third vacation with Lt to California and the Redwoods. Here is why it's daring. Our first vacation together we went to Tennessee for the fall foliage. All we saw for the first three days was the inside of a hospital room. Yep, we both got severe food poisoning on our first night there (before we even made it to the hotel!). Second trip to Boston was better, but I want one vacation were absolutely nothing but utter joy and relaxation happens. Could third time be a charm?

Would you ever travel alone?
For short jaunts like going home or meeting up with friends sure. But for true travel, I enjoy having someone with me. My sister and I and travel to Charleston SC and Savannah GA and we are leaving tonight! I get so excited when I do research on what to do while we are there. It is just more enjoyable and memorable to share it with someone!

What activities do you like to do alone?
  • Definitely reading! If my Kindle paper white is in my hands...shhhhh! LOL!
  • Loading the dishwasher! There is a certain way to do it in my book.
  • Grading papers, otherwise I won't get it done!
What a great way to learn about other bloggers! Come join the fun!

Home Town Hop!

I am joining up with Heather over at From Here to There and Ashley from Wannbe Green. Today's topic...Your Home Town! I get the opportunity to expound all the wealth and attractions my home town has to offer.

I feel blessed to have grown up in a small farming community. Spearville, Kansas is located in the southwest corner of Kansas. It is flat, flat, flat. In the summer, 45 mile an hour wind is considered a breeze and there is a lot of wind and very few trees to act as wind breaks unless planned.

To you that may not be very exciting, but let me tell you the positives of this town. When I grew up the population was about 800. It has maintained that give or take 50 the last 20 years. Spearville is known as the City of Windmills. It still is but with a modern twist. We have several windmill farms! According to the city's website there are 99 turbines with 2 more windmill farms being planned to have a total of 270 turbine around the area! Wow!

Old Timey Windmill
New Timey Windmill

I have to say, whenever I do get back to that area, it freaks me out to see all those turbines! It is not how I left it, but so dang proud of their contributions to the environment!

There is not much in sight seeing and nightlife. Our entertainment was school sports. Our school used to be good at girl's basketball. I don't know if it still is because I have been gone over 20 years. On a side note: my graduating class was 18 people with 5 being girls. On a side, side note: I went to school with the momma to Willy Cauley-Stein, who plays on the  University of Kentucky basketball team. This boy will be pro one day!

Girls Baskeball ROCKED!

My old alma mater.
It's being torn down for a new one. Sad.
It was also built during the Works Progress Act.

Sorry my town doesn't have much to offer in the ways of visiting. But I must say, I am so glad I was raised there. I was able to go out and play as long as I can hear my mom's whistle. I had to be home when the church bells rung at 6 p.m. We had dinner together every night as a family. My family supported me in my endeavors to be a basketball player in middle school and a cheerleader in high school. My extended family would come to our house for dinner and game nights. My dad taught me to drive a stick shift out in the country.

So thanks for tiptoeing through my memories of my hometown. Next time we will visit the town 25 miles west...the rootin' tootin' rough and tumble town of Dodge City. Yee haw!!

Weekend and 30/30 update

So the mantra for this weekend really was "We got this!" Why, you ask?

Well, we drove 2 hours to help our friends celebrate their wedding..."We Got This!"

They chose a beautiful location, outside. They did not count on the cold weather moving in that night..."We Got This!"

But there was wine, fire pits, heated lamps, and did I mention wine? They also gave out bags of hand warmers and fleece blankets. They both came in handy! Lt used the warmers and I took the blanket. Plus there was dancing. I did get my slow dance with Lt. Then we drove the 2 hours back and got home around 11 p.m..."We Got This!"

The second "I got this" moment was Sunday. I was a grading machine! There was so much grading I had put off; like a 2 inch stack!..."I Got This!"

Let me tell you a secret. I was in a funk for a few weeks and had the I don't give a crap. I had to pull up my big girl panties and just dealt with it...."I Got This!" (But it was hard!)

So with all of that, I committed to the 30 day/30 mile challenge. And....I Got This!! Here is my proof:
3/1/13 Mile 1 down on the treadmill (sorry for fuzzy pix)

3/2/13 Mile 2

3/3/13 Mile 3 outside! Booya!

Now I need to get off this blog so I can get mile 4 down. Boy, do I need the encouragement and motivation!! Come on girl...you can do this!!
